Telehealth physician work tied to North Carolina (NC). North Carolina is an Interstate Medical Licensure Compact member that also grants physician assistant, occupational therapy, social work and psychology compact privileges. Virtual clinics, payer care teams, and health systems hire physicians for video visits, remote triage, and asynchronous care for North Carolina patients.
North Carolina's health systems and payer-led care programs hire remote clinicians for panels that span the whole state.
North Carolina is an Interstate Medical Licensure Compact and Nurse Licensure Compact member, and it also grants the physician assistant, occupational therapy, social work and psychology compact privileges. It has no private-payer telehealth coverage mandate, so insurer payment is whatever the contract provides, while NC Medicaid reimburses live video, store-and-forward, remote patient monitoring and audio-only visits.
Prescribers should note G.S. 90-30.2, the 2021 teledentistry statute (2021-95, s. 1(b)): a licensee using remote modalities must establish the licensee-patient relationship, conduct the evaluation and history, and personally evaluate the indication, appropriateness and safety of each prescription, with any pain-medication prescribing tied into the state's Controlled Substance Reporting System. North Carolina's general practice rule still bars practicing medicine without a North Carolina license, and the DEA's flexibilities on remote controlled-substance prescribing extend through December 31, 2026.
North Carolina is the thinnest market we track - 15 cached listings, 6 with remote flags - and the only one of the ten where registered nurses do not appear at all: 8 physician-assistant and 6 nurse-practitioner postings plus one physician role. Contract-style wording outweighs salaried wording, with three PRN, one locum and one 1099 mention against four full-time tags.
Telehealth physician roles center on family medicine, urgent care, hospitalist coverage, and utilization review. Virtual panels let physicians treat patients across state lines from a home office, with schedule control that clinic-based practice rarely offers.
