Telehealth physician work tied to Florida (FL). Florida is an Interstate Medical Licensure Compact member with an extra out-of-state registration route under section 456.47(4), and no payment-parity mandate. Virtual clinics, payer care teams, and health systems hire physicians for video visits, remote triage, and asynchronous care for Florida patients.
Florida's retiree-heavy population drives steady demand for remote chronic-care management, follow-up visits, and nurse advice lines.
Florida is a member of both the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact and the Nurse Licensure Compact, and it offers a route neither compact provides: under section 456.47(4) an out-of-state clinician may register with the relevant board, designate a Florida registered agent, carry malpractice coverage at Florida limits, and treat patients located in the state remotely - without opening an office or providing in-person care here. Reimbursement is not guaranteed the same way: section 627.42396 leaves telemedicine payment to voluntary contracts at negotiated rates, so Florida carries no payment-parity mandate.
Florida also draws the hardest line on controlled substances. Section 456.47(2)(c) bars prescribing a Schedule II drug by telehealth unless the drug is for treatment of a psychiatric disorder, inpatient care in a licensed hospital, hospice services, or a nursing home resident. The telehealth framework was enacted in chapter 2019-137 (SB 1688), and the DEA's flexibilities remain in force through December 31, 2026.
