California is not a member of the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact and not one of the Nurse Licensure Compact jurisdictions, so a clinician treating a patient located in the state has to hold a full California license rather than a compact privilege. The DEA's temporary telemedicine rule keeps remote prescribing of controlled substances legal without a prior in-person visit through December 31, 2026.
